Free withdrawals from ATM: What changes have been made to banks’ supplies

From Monday (11.8.2025) the new frame for cash withdrawals is in force ATMwhich significantly reduces the cost of banking procurement For consumers.

On the basis of the adjustment adopted, a national ceiling of EUR 1.50 is applied to specific ATM transactions, removing the highest charges from supplies in force to date.

The change is mainly concerned with withdrawals with cards issued by Greek credit institutions, regardless of whether the ATM of the same or other bank.

The aim is to limit the costs for citizens, especially in areas with a limited banking presence, where they were often forced to use different bank machines than their own.

The reduction in debt is estimated to relieve users who regularly withdraw small sums, and will also favor visitors to tourist destinations, where charges were often higher. The measure is part of a broader framework for improving transparency and harmonization of banking supplies.

In detail, the new regime provides:

  • Nihilization of supplies for cash withdrawals between all banks participating in the DIAS Interbank System
  • Abolition of charges by third parties when there is direct or indirect shareholder connection to the customer’s bank
  • Zero charges and from third parties to municipal communities where only one ATM operates
  • Ceiling of 1.50 euros for withdrawals of third -party payment providers across the country
  • Free Balance Question for all card holders, regardless of bank or provider ATM
  • Single billing of 0.50 euros to send remittances through digital channels (web, mobile, internet banking) by third parties, in equivalence with banks’ charges
  • Legislation that no bank can charge its customers for cash withdrawals
