Stefanos Kasselakis, in his post, criticizes the government for the management of the recent fires in Patras. After a visit to the area, he denounces the absence of government officials and Members.
The president of the Democracy Movement, after visiting the area of Patras where the fire burned down the areas of Balla, Voudeni and Bozaitika, said he had talked to residents. According to him, his inhabitants complained that if they had evacuated as requested, they would not have been able to build firefighting zones, resulting in their homes burning. As Mr Kasselakis said, residents stressed that they would not have been able to help the firefighters and, consequently, they would not have houses today.
In addition, he emphasized the presence of the Mayor, Costas Peletidis, the firefighters and the volunteers, who, he said, were “meager” for two days to feed the fire. He then raised a series of rhetorical questions about the absence of New Democracy MPs, Jason Fotila, Andrea Kastaniotis and Christina Alexopoulou, as well as Minister of Civil Protection, Yiannis Kefalogiannis.
Mr Kasselakis also accused Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis of trying to “lies” and “accusations” to disorient public opinion in order not to take responsibility. Finally, the President of the Democracy Movement called on government officials to visit Patras, wondering why they chose to do so after August 15, implying that they avoid seeing the situation on the spot so that they would not spoil their three days.
