Swedish activist Greta Toenberg announced on Sunday (10.08.2025) that he will take part in a new maritime mission with Gauzewith a stated goal of “breaking the illegal Israeli exclusion”.
According to a message by Greta Toenberg posted on Instagram, on August 31st, the “biggest effort ever organized” will begin with dozens of ships departing from Spain for Gaza, while on September 4 they will be united with other ships that leave Tunisia.
International mobilization
The mission, named Global Sumudilla, gathers NGOs, doctors, artists and personalities, including American actress Susan Saranton, Swedish actress Gustaf Skarsgord and Irish actor Liam. In total, participants from 44 countries are expected, according to organizers on their website.
The exact number of ships headed to Gaza has not been clarified.
Previous incidents at sea
Last June, the Madleen sailboat, with twelve passengers of French, German, Brazilian, Turkish, Swedish and Spanish nationality, was intercepted by the Israeli forces about 185 km west of Gaza. The occupants were subsequently deported, some after their brief detention.
Global Sumudilla is presented as a “independent” organization, stressing that it is not linked to any government or political party.
