Earthquake in Turkey: Over 230 afters

Hundreds of aftershocks followed the articular of 6.1 Richter marked on Sunday night (10.8.2025) at Turkey and specifically in the Sidirgi area of Balikesir.

According to the latest data, 237 aftershocks occurred until Monday morning – 10 of which were over 4 Richter – focusing on the same area of Turkey.

The magnitude of the disaster was reflected in the first light of day, as dozens of buildings have been leveled.

Rescuers are still looking for survivors in the debris, and according to the latest information at least two people are missing.

Specifically, Sidirgi’s Mayor, Serkan Sak, told Habertürk television that two of the six people in a three -storey building that collapsed have not been identified.

An 81 -year -old man died shortly after he was released from the ruins in the city of Sidirgi.

The videos posted on social media show the intensity of the earthquake and the size of the disasters.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan issued a statement in which he wished for a rapid recovery to all those affected and said that all recovery efforts were being closely monitored.

Dozens of homes have been damaged, while residents overnight in cars and squares.

The earthquake was felt in Lesvos, Chios, in the northern islands of the Dodecanese and in Alexandroupolis.

Professor of Dynamic Tectonic & Applied Geology, Efthimios Lekkas, told ERTNEWS that the Greek space is not affected, as this rift is not part of the narrow area of Anatolia.
