The progress of two flagship infrastructure projects for Lesvos was inspected today by the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Christos Dimaswhich conducted an autopsy at the construction site of the Tsiknia Dam, as well as in four school units renovated through the Marietta Giannakou program.
The Touknia Dam is a project of strategic importance to the island, with a budget of 96.6 million euros. When completed, it will ensure the quality water supply of Mytilene, Kalloni and Agia Paraskevi, and even in times of drought, and in the future it will meet irrigation needs. The progress of work today is 8.36%, with the project including, inter alia, the creation of a reservoir of 12.5 million cubic meters, a water treatment installation and a 50km long pipeline.
At the same time, the minister visited the four school units that have joined the Marietta Giannakou program, with a total budget of interventions exceeding 760,000 euros. Work, including toilets upgrades, improving accessibility for people with disabilities, renovation of sports facilities and colors, are moving rapidly and are expected to be completed until September 10, so that schools are ready for the new year.
In a statement, Mr Dimas described the dam as “strategic infrastructure for the island’s resilience to climate change” and the school’s renovation program as a “emblematic example of public and private cooperation”, stressing the ministry’s commitment to projects that respond to real needs.
