Deadly floods
The disaster is attributed to the heavy rainfall that preceded it, for which the Indian Meteorological Service had issued a warning.
Flood floods and landslides are common during the monsoon period in India, from June to September.
Scientists emphasize that climate change makes these phenomena more often, intense and unpredictable.
