A “very good meeting” said that today (6.8.25) its president had Swiss Karin Keller-South with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio after the two discussed the issue of dictatorial that the US is planning to impose on Swiss imports.
“We had a very friendly and open discussion,” the Swiss president told reporters after a meeting in Washington on duties. However, the president did not answer a question asked by journalists about what additional bids would make to Switzerland to avoid a 39% planned duty on its products imported into the USA.
The President of the Swiss Confederation, which is also finance minister, arrived early this morning at the State Department’s headquarters in Washington for this extraordinary meeting in camera with the head of US diplomacy.
“The aim is to present to the US a more attractive bid, which will allow the amount of additional duties to be implemented to Swiss exports, taking into account US concerns,” said a press release yesterday, posting the president’s trip. Keller-Sutter is accompanied by the country’s finance minister Guy Parmelen.
Switzerland remained stunned by White House announcements last week, providing for 39% duties on Swiss products against 31% originally set in early April. Washington is expected to be implemented on Wednesday night to Thursday (7.8.25).
In a press release issued on Monday after an extraordinary meeting, the Federal Council estimates that nearly 60% of Swiss exports to the US are in danger of being hit by these additional duties.
However, no meeting with US President Donald Trump at the White House has been announced for the time being.
