Constituted Task Force for the field of organic production

The Task Force for the organic production sector, chaired by the Secretary General of Rural Development and Food Spyros Protopsalti, is constituted by the government by decision of the Minister of Rural Development and Food, Costas Tsiaras.

The mission of the new Task Force is the coordination, supervision and acceleration of all the necessary actions to enhance the credibility, transparency and effectiveness of the organic control and certification system under Regulation (EU) 2018/848.

The aim – according to the update of the Ministry of Rural Development is to create a single and coherent framework that will ensure:

• the credibility of biological signs of consumers,
• Justice in the distribution of aid to consistent producers,

• Strengthening the approval and supervision mechanism of certification bodies,
• and the treatment of misleading, irregularities and unfair competition.

The decision is part of the ministry’s overall plan to boost organic production and achieve the national goal: 25% of agricultural land is cultivated by biological methods by 2030.

The coordination team is made up of officials from the Ministry, ELGO – DIMITRA and the General Secretariat for Union Resources and Infrastructure, as well as a specialized scientist in the academic community, to ensure a high level of documentation and efficiency. Task Force’s work is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
