Kyriakos Mitsotakis, accompanied by by Digital Governance Minister Dimitris Papastergiou And Deputy Minister Christos Dermentzopoulos was guided to the premises by Iceye CEO, RafaĆ Modrzewski and the head of the Greek subsidiary, Vassilis Haloulakos.
During his visit, the prime minister said that Greece aspires to be an active part of the space ecosystem, utilizing domestic human capital and the technological capabilities of this new industry. He emphasized the importance of satellites for environmental monitoring, crisis, security and defense management applications, while pointing out the need to support cutting -edge technologies at European level.
The Minister of Digital Government said that Iceye’s presence in the country is not symbolic, but essential, with the construction of Greek microfibers and the return of Greek scientists who strengthen the national space ecosystem.
High -tech satellites by 2025 – Production and in our country
The first two Greek satellites SAR, manufactured by Iceye on behalf of the Greek state, will be orbited by the end of 2025, contributing decisively to the operational capabilities of the national microfiber program.
SAR technology allows the Earth to be observed day and night, regardless of weather conditions, and the images will be used in natural disasters, on land and sea monitoring, as well as for defense and safety needs, with the help of artificial intelligence tools.
Today, about 15% of satellite subsystems They are produced in Greece. In addition, through the program, the Ministry of National Defense will gain access to high -resolution satellite data for critical applications.
Complete satellite unit in Greece from 2026
The prime minister was also informed of the design of Iceye Hellas to start, in 2026, the complete construction of satellites in Greece – from the first accessory to the final assembly. This is the first time that the production of the company’s satellites will take place outside Finland, making our country a strategic hub in the European Space Industry.
The new unit will be able to simultaneously produce 3-4 satellites and at least 8 per year, While the Greek productive unit is already employed by specialized staff, including scientists who have returned from abroad.
Iceye, with a presence in 10 countries and more than 900 employees, has raised investment funds of over $ 500 million, confirming its potential on the world map of space technology.
