In the 6th place of EU countries with the most revenue from tourism in 2024 Greece

In the 6th place in the list of Member States of the European Union (EU) with the most income by tourismour country was found last year.

According to Eurostat data on the role of the EU in the world sector of tourism, in conjunction with international sources, Greece was in 6th place among 27 countries, surpassing revenue in 2024 even much larger countries and population.

Greece received more than € 9.4 billion behind Germany (12.1 billion euros), Portugal (€ 12.7 billion), Italy (€ 24.8 billion), France (37 billion euros), Spain (44.5 billion euros).

Overall, the EU received 25.9 % of world revenue from international tourism in 2023: 15.2 % came from international tourism among EU countries, while 10.7 % came from tourists outside the EU.

Looking at EU countries, Spain, France, Italy, Germany, Portugal, Austria, Greece, the Netherlands, Croatia and Poland will be classified among countries with at least 1% of world revenue from international tourism.

In 2023, 18 countries outside the EU received at least 1% of world revenue from international tourism. The US had a stake of 12.3%, which was much higher than the share recorded for other countries outside the EU. The United Kingdom had the highest share (4.8%).
