One worker lost his life and five more remain trapped after the collapse of the gallery at El Teniente, in Chile. The accident occurred on Thursday afternoon (31.07.2025), after earthquake 4.2 Richter that struck the Rancagau area, about 100 kilometers south of Santiago.
The Gallery in Chile belongs to the public company Codelco, the largest copper producer in the world. The earthquake caused part of part of the underground structure and the immediate evacuation of the mine. Nine workers were injured, without being at risk of life.

Rescue crews continue their investigations to identify the five trapped. “We have already contacted some of them,” Codelco President Maximo Paceko told Cooperativa.
