In spite of the deterioration recorded in the latest polls, the New Democracy It maintains its primacy in the political scene, with a clear lead from the second. This image highlights two basic findings: on the one hand the resilience of the ruling party, on the other hand the inability of the opposition – mainly in the center -left – to present a new, convincing political narrative or a charismatic leader who will rally.
Polls underline the absence of a new political product. THE SYRIZAStill injured by successive electoral defeats and intra -party rearrangements, he has not been able to regain his credibility. PASOK, despite Nikos Androulakis’ generous efforts to give a new orientation to the party, appears stagnant, without a clear ideological stigma and without a strong social footprint. This creates a political gap in the center and the center -left, a gap that can hardly remain empty on indefinite. Social fatigue from crises – economic, energy, health, institutional – is real and is constantly increasing. Unless there is a new body or political composition that expresses the needs of the time with realism, values and effectiveness, the existing political scene will remain stagnant but vulnerable to unpredictable developments.
The question, then, is what will trigger the next major political shift. An institutional depth scandal? A new leading figure that will inspire trust and hope? Or is the appearance of a completely new political formation outside the existing parties?
The future is not necessarily prescribed, but it seems to seek more than the maintenance of the existing. And the late the new proposal is to appear, the more the New Democracy, despite the deterioration, will remain dominant – not because it is completely persuaded, but because no other force seems capable of challenging it in terms of serious alternative governmentism.
Political stagnation can be temporary. The next scene depends on when and who will find the courage – and strategy – to challenge the existing context with seriousness, cohesion and social appeal.
