The summer discounts of 2025 started dynamically, giving the opportunity to the consumers Get clothing, footwear, electronics, home items and much more at highly reduced prices.
The summer discount season is one of the most important for the market, both for consumers and for retail businessmen.
According to applicable law, summer discounts began on Monday, July 14 and will run until Sunday, August 31, 2025.
Throughout the discounts, businesses are required to clearly state both the original and the new, reduced price of products, so that consumers can make easy comparisons. The discount rate is not mandatory (but it is allowed once the ‘discount’ is used).
Consumers should always request proof and be informed of guarantee, instructions and changes in change/return.
The basic rules of discounts
- Offers must clearly indicate the original and reduced value, with reference to the appropriate unit of measure. The earlier price is the lowest price applied by the trader within at least 30 days, or 10 days if the product is available less than 30 days.
- If the discount rate relates to more than 60% of the products of a store, then it must be listed in its showcase and other commercial communications. If there are different percentages in product categories, the range must be indicated (“from …% to …%”).
- Stock or Outlet stores are required to clearly display the old price deleted and the new lower price on their plates.
- Misleading announcements or inaccuracies on rates or prices are fined up to 2% of the annual turnover or with a minimum fine of EUR 20,000. For a second infringement within five years, the fine is increased to 4% of the annual turnover.
What to look out for consumers
The Greek Consumer Workers Association advises consumers:
- To prioritize their needs and shop on their budget.
- Conduct market research before they reach a specific product.
- Not to be seduced by excessively high rates of discount.
- Control-as much as possible-the quality and authenticity of the product and take into account the quality-cost correlation.
- Be informed of the policy pursued by each store in the event of a defective product, a guarantee, etc.
