One -third of the Members in the Britain They called on Prime Minister Kir Starmer to recognize her state Palestinea commitment made on Thursday by French President Emmanuel Macron.
In particular, 221 MPs from nine political parties represented in the House of Commons in Britain, which has 650 members, signed a letter to Palestine, addressing this request to Prime Minister and Foreign Minister David Lami.
“We are writing to you before the United Nations Conference in which France and Saudi Arabia are co -chairing, on July 28 and 29 in New York, to express our support for recognition, by the United Kingdom, a Palestinian state,” on the occasion of this meeting, this text reads.
“Although we know that the United Kingdom is not able to create a free and independent Palestine, the UK recognition would have a significant impact due to our historical links and our regime as a (permanent) member of the United Nations Security Council. We therefore urge you to take this step, “the letter continues.
The initiative for the letter was by Labor MP Sarah Champion, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on International Development.
The text is signed by members of the Labor, the Conservative Party, the Liberal-Democrats, the Greens, the Scottish SNP, but also by independent MPs.
Emmanuel Macron announced on Thursday that France will recognize the state of Palestine in September when the United Nations General Assembly convened.
Earlier today, Britain Prime Minister Kir Starmer said his government would recognize Palestine only under a peace agreement, disappointing many members of the Labor Party who wanted to follow the example of France.
