The Ministry of Finance said: “I came and asked to take the floor on the occasion of another issue that has arisen in relation to third -party ATMs. Charges that are rightly described as unjustified. What happened after the sale of machinery from bank to a company – a third provider imposing charges on bank customers is an unacceptable situation from the Prime Minister and the Ministry.

“The act will come by an amendment and today I am announcing the perimeter of this act,” Mr Pierrakakis noted:

  1. First applies that For a bank customers face zero charges and we have to institutionalize this.
  2. Banks’ charges with each other through the DIAS system still charge up to 1.5 euros today. These charges are reset.
  3. It will enter a national ceiling of 1.5 euros for any other charge. Another charge is, for example, the charge of a third party or the Greek bank charge to a foreign bank.
  4. In any bank link with a third provider, The third provider will face bank customers as if the bank itself is. That is, it will have zero charges

  6. The balance question will be free for third parties.
  7. For remittances the charge of 0.5 euros applicable to banks will also apply to third party providers.

It is clear that intervention is deeply political, with a social sign. Proof that the government acts for the benefit of society. ”

As Mr Pierrakakis said, these interventions come after previous interventions made by the government, with which:

  • Establish zero charges via web and mobile banking for payments to public, insurance funds, DEKO, Local Authorities, Telecommunications, etc. (the charge in force before was 0.60 euros per transaction)
  • It reduced supplies to remittances within Greece by up to EUR 5,000, with the ceiling of billing for incoming and outgoing remittances to EUR 0.50 (from 2.5 to 5 euros previously, ie a reduction of 50% to 80%)
  • Zero the charges for the balance question (before it was 0.50 euros)
  • Zero the charges to charge a prepaid card up to 100 euros
  • Reduced by 50% supplies for small retail markets by up to 20 euros

“Today we take the next step, judging that banks are strong, with improved profitability, capital and reduced NPLs, which create the conditions for customers to fall. Banks are able to enhance citizens’ confidence, improve the accessibility of banking services by adopting more friendly and competitive charges, “said Pierrakakis. As he said, the government is in favor of competition, but the state intervenes where it considers it to intervene, in the context of corresponding European interventions. “So we intervene immediately, we set rules, we restore the balance between the market and society because this is the obligation of the state. With pure political will, with determination and social consciousness we proceed to a clear, bold and necessary intervention in the issue of bank charges, with fixed rules and protection for all, ” The Minister of Finance stressed.
