THE heat ‘Burns’ most of the country, with temperatures which will remain over 40 degrees Celsius by the end of the current week.
On the occasion of the prolonged heatwave, the General Secretariat for Civil Protection of the Ministry of Climate Crisis & Civil Protection, re -establishes recommendations to citizens in order to be particularly carefulensuring that self -protection measures from risks derive from high temperatures.
The GAPP has informed the competent government agencies involved, as well as the regions and municipalities of the country, in order to be on increased civil protection readiness to immediately address the impact of high temperatures.
In areas where high temperatures are prevalent, draws attention to people belonging to vulnerable groups to be very careful, to avoid health problems, such as thermal exhaustion and heat stroke.
In particular, according to the self -protection guidelines from high temperatures, it is recommended for citizens:
* Stay in cool and shady spaces away from overcrowding, use air conditioners or fans, and avoid heavy physical work in high temperature, apnea and high humidity areas.
* Avoid sunbathing, as well as walking or running under the sun and wear a hat and sunglasses and light -colored clothing that allows the skin to ventilate and facilitate the evaporation of the sweat, avoiding synthetic fabrics.
* Consume light meals with fruits and vegetables, limiting fat and quantity of food.
* Drink plenty of water and fruit juices, avoiding alcohol.
Particular care is recommended for babies and young children, as well as the elderly and sufferers from chronic diseases to protect them from high temperatures
For more information and self -protection guidelines from high temperatures, citizens can visit the website of the General Secretariat for Civil Protection at CivilProtection.gov.gr and the Ministry of Health document ‘Prevent the impact of high temperatures and heatwaves’
In particular, issues related to the prevention of thermal stress of workers are given in the document of the Ministry of Labor & Social Security “Prevention of thermal stress of workers”.
High temperatures throughout the week
It is noted that according to the up-to-date emergency worsening card (EDEK) issued today by the National Meteorological Service (NMS), high temperatures are foreseen in our country throughout the week since Monday (21-7-2025). Possible expiration of the heat on Sunday (27-7-2025). The highest prices (maximum prices above 41 degrees) will occur from tomorrow Tuesday (22-7-2025) and then inside mainland Greece.
It is noted that:
A. In the coastal areas of the mainland the maximum temperature value will be 2 to 4 degrees lower than the temperature inside the mainland Greece.
B. Minimum temperatures from Wednesday in urban centers will be maintained at high levels and will range around 27 to 29 degrees Celsius.
Citizens can be informed daily on the evolution of emergency weather in regular EMY weather reports and on the EMY website at www.emy.gr, (www.oldportal.emy.gr)
Meteo: Very high to extreme thermal burden
Very high to extreme thermal burden is expected in many areas of Greece due to the strong heat wave that will affect the whole country.
According to the latest forecasts of Meteo.gr/ Nthnic Observatory of Athens, a strong heatwave is expected to affect the country on Monday 21/07 and especially during Tuesday 22/07 to Saturday 26/07.
On Monday 21/07, maximum temperatures will reach 39-40 degrees and 4 ° C locally, while in the coming days the maximum will rise. At the same time, during the night the temperature will remain high. The above contributes to increased risk due to thermal burden on most of the country.
More specifically, according to the biometerological Heat-ARM warning system and as distinguished on the maps, it is expected:
* On Monday 21/07 very high thermal burden on many continental and island areas of the country. Extreme thermal burden on areas of central Sterea, Central and Eastern Thessaly and Macedonia.
* On Tuesday 22/07 very high to extreme thermal burden on most continental and island areas of the country.
As meteo.gr points in Athens, the conditions of prolonged hot burden combined with the absence of cooling and thermal relief during the night significantly increase the risk of human health. This is why it is strongly recommended to implement protection measures (eg regularly cool showers) from all population groups, and especially the most vulnerable (elderly, outdoor workers, children, pregnant women, people suffering from chronic diseases, etc.).
