The dedication of Greece In the target of reunification of Cyprus on the basis of a sequel, iconomic federation highlights the Ministry of Foreign Affairs In a statement issued for 51 years from the Turkish invasion.
Queen of Sofia expresses the conviction that Recent Initiatives of the UN Secretary -General can create the conditions to achieve this goal.
The whole message of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs:
“Today is 51 years since the Turkish invasion of Cyprus that led to the possession of a third of the territory of the Republic of Cyprus, in violation of any concept of international law. Greece stands with respect for the memory of the fallen, shares the drama of the missing and displaced and expresses its eternal gratitude to all those who have been bravely and self -denial defended the Great.
The Cyprus issue remains an international issue of illegal invasion and occupation to this day and a constant, daily, violation of the United Nations Charter. The perpetuation of today’s status quo, as well as the creation of “two states”, are not acceptable solutions. Greece, in conjunction with the Republic of Cyprus, remains committed to seeking a comprehensive, mutually acceptable solution, based on the bi -zonal, bi -communal federation, with political equality of Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, with an international personality, a sovereignty and a citizenship.
Thanks to the strong commitment of the UN Secretary -General to the mission of good services assigned to him by the Security Council, the Cyprus issue is high on the United Nations agenda.
Greece is a helper in the efforts of the Secretary General of the United Nations and the President of the Republic of Cyprus to resume talks. The informal meetings in an expanded figure that took place this year in Geneva and New York show that the conditions that will lead to this goal can be created.
The resolution of the Cyprus problem, in the context of the parameters set by the United Nations Security Council, the reunification of Megalonis and the lifting of occupation of an EU member country remains a highest national priority. “
