F-35 in Turkey: American legislators are preparing a letter to Rubio to express their opposition

With a new letter preparing to be sent to Foreign Minister Marko Rubio, American legislators point out the dangers that raises a possible reintegration of her Turkey in the program of F-35 And they ask the government to remain opposed to such a possibility.

The initiative for this letter to Turkey and the F-35s, which is currently in the process of gathering signatures, belongs to MPs Chris Pappa, Gki Bilirakis, Dina Taitou, and Nikol Malliotakis.

This move is in the wake of the references that Turkey is seeking to remove Caatsa sanctions, as well as President Erdogan’s statements at the NATO summit that claim that “talks have begun technical talks” with the US.

For their part, legislators are calling on their colleagues to sign the letter in order to maintain Caatsa sanctions and protect US defense and secret assets from Russian military espionage.

As noted in the letter, “The lifting of sanctions or Turkey’s return to the F-35 program, without first withdrawing the S-400s, would endanger the integrity of the F-35 systems, would reveal US military secrets to Russian secret services, undermine us and undermine our defense Next -generation fighter aircraft announced by the government. “

In this light, legislators note in the letter that this is not a “party issue”, given that Congress has consistently supported CAATSA sanctions and Turkey’s removal from the F-35 program in multiple governments and with interdisciplinary support.

At the same time, they recall that almost a decade later, Turkey still holds the S-400 systems and has shown no willingness to comply with US law. In this context, they argue that it would be wrong to reward such an anti -transcendental behavior.

“We urge the government to comply with US law, maintain Caatsa sanctions and protect US defense and secret assets. We must continue to ensure that our allies and opponents will be accountable when their actions threaten the interests of the US, “they say.
