Donald Trump has been named ‘Person of the Year’ for 2024 by the Time magazine grabbing the title from Kate Middleton.
The initial list of nominees for Time’s Person of the Year included: Kamala Harris, Kate Middleton, Elon Musk, Yulia Navalny, Benjamin Netanyahu, Jerome Powell, Joe Rogan, Claudia Sheinbaum, Donald Trump and Mark Zuckerberg, while a short list was created that included them Donald Trump, Kamala Harris, Elon Musk, Benjamin Netanyahu and Kate Middleton.
Time revealed its “Person of the Year” Thursday morning in a related post on X (formerly Twitter).
The American magazine with choice of Donald Trump as “Person of the Year” declares that he recognizes him as the man with the greatest influence on world affairs, “for good or for bad.”
“This is someone who has made a historic comeback, who has reshaped the American presidency and who is reshaping American politics. It’s hard to dispute the fact that the person moving into the Oval Office is the most influential person in news.” Time editor-in-chief Sam Jacobs said of Trump’s choice to Today.
Every year since 1927, Time magazine has named a “Person of the Year”, from historic world leaders to figures who represent Art.
The 2023 the title was won by Taylor Swiftfor her unprecedented success on the world music scene and the influence she exerts.
Kate Middleton is among the top five candidates
The 42-year-old Princess of Wales Kate Middleton was on the top five nominations for Time magazine’s Person of the Year along with Donald Trump, Kamala Harris, Elon Musk and Benjamin Netanyahu.
In 2024 Kate Middleton fought a difficult battle with cancer and I spoke openly about her health problem.
The past 12 months have been difficult for Kate following abdominal surgery in January, before fierce conspiracy theories circulated after she disappeared from public life. She later revealed she had been diagnosed with cancer and started preventative chemotherapy, before making a very gradual return to public life with appearances at Trooping the Colour, Wimbledon and then hosting the Westminster Abbey Christmas Concert on Friday 6 December.
During the ‘Together At Christmas’ event Kate reflected on her tumultuous year, saying she ‘didn’t know’ what this year would bring just 12 months ago.
The 42-year-old, who is gradually returning to public events after completing chemotherapy around four months ago, was heard in broadcast footage telling singer Paloma Faith: “I couldn’t imagine the year I’ve just had.”
When Faith replied ‘the unplanned’, Kate said: ‘The unplanned, exactly. But I think a lot of people this year have had such a hard time.”
This year’s theme for the Christmas event, which was inspired and launched by the Princess of Wales in 2021, was ‘how much we need others in difficult times’, a theme chosen by the future Queen as she had by her side during her difficult battle with cancer, except for Prince William and her family.
