Clearly enhanced the European Union’s defensive orientation (EU) to the new Community budget for the period 2028 – 2034. As presented in yesterday’s report (16.7.25), Fivewhent Increase in Common Defense Expenditure Compared to the previous programming period, in the context of the Rearmeu 2030 strategy and the targeting for defense spending corresponding to 5% within NATO.
Specifically, the new EU’s joint defense spending budget is projected to reach € 131 billion in 2028 – 2034 against the € 26 billion in the previous seven years in 2021 – 2027, recording a five -fold increase.
More specifically, the Commission’s proposal is provided to enhance Europe’s security capabilities in investment in important areas for security and critical infrastructure:
- EUR 131 billion from the European Competitiveness Fund for investment in defense, security and space – five times as much as the previous MP.
- Support throughout the investment route through the European Competitiveness Fund.
- Tenxation of the military mobility bolt in facilitating “connecting Europe”, with a focus on dual -use infrastructure, cyber security and energy security through cross -border works.
In particular, the Commission’s proposal notes that the long -term budget will help to build a European Defense Union, which can defend, remain connected and act quickly whenever needed. The European Competitiveness Fund Fund window will allocate € 131 billion to support defense, security and space investment, five times more EU funding compared to the previous MP.
Member States and Regions will be able to support a voluntary basis and in accordance with regional needs and priorities, projects related to defense in their national and regional corporate relationship plans. The military mobility of the mechanism “Connecting Europe” will be tenfold. It will support investment in dual -use infrastructure alongside policies and will contribute to a significant impetus for cyber security, infrastructure and defense development as a whole. To enhance energy security, the “Connection of Europe” mechanism will provide funding to cross -border energy and transport projects.
The new budget also provides for increased funding for migration management, strengthening EU external borders and enhancing internal security.
There will be 34 billion euros, which triples funding compared to the previous funding period. Member States will receive support from the Union to respond quickly and effectively to on -site developments.
Funds will help Member States enhance the law enforcement capabilities on the Internet and outside the Internet, to equip our border guards with the appropriate tools for protecting external borders and implement a fair and stable migration management system in the context of the immigration pact.
