Guilfoyle also congratulated the recent increase in Greece’s defense spending, which is now reported to reach 5% of its GDP, and underlined the acquisition of F-35 fighter aircraft as a contribution to the safety of the east side of NATO.

On the contrary, he noted Turkey’s exclusion from the F-35 program due to the supply of Russian S-400 missile systems, stressing that the United States needs partners that keep their commitments-“like Greece”.
In addition, he underlined the importance of international law and criticized Turkish overflows in the Aegean, aligning its observations with the wider US concerns about regional tensions.
If the full Senate validates its appointment, Guilfoyle is expected to take on its new duties in Athens in late August or early September.
