According to what was known, Odun Grunvold was struck by lightning during summer vacations and lost his life. According to the Guardian, the Norwegian Olympian was immediately taken to the hospital, where he received medical care, but succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday night (15.07.2025).
“We were deeply saddened by Odun Grunvol’s premature death,” the Norwegian federation said in a statement.
Grunvol had won the bronze medal at the Vancouver Winter Olympics in 2010, and had climbed the podium and the 2005 World Championships, also with a bronze medal in free skiing. In his career in Alpine skiing, he had a presence on the World Cup pedestal, with a third place in Sierra Nevada in Spain in 1999.
After his racing course, he served the sport from the position of National Team coach, and was also distinguished as a television commentator.
Odun Grunvuld leaves behind his wife, Christine Tandberg Hauze, and their three children. In a post on Facebook, his wife bid him farewell to: “It was my great love and my best friend for 20 years.”
