Nautical support policies, smart trade agreements and brave funding of common rural Politics suggested the Minister of Rural Development and Food, Costas Tsiarasduring his interventions at the EU’s Agriculture and Fisheries Council, which took place today in the Brussels.
At the same time, in his intervention on the situation of agricultural markets after the invasion of Ukraine, he stressed that there were strong imbalances behind the average European terms. As he noted, while beef and dairy products show increased prices, other products, such as cereals, remain under pressure while stressing that climate instability, increased input costs and geopolitical developments undermine the stability of agricultural income.
According to the YPATA announcement, Mr Tsiaras also highlighted national fluctuations: from boosting fresh products to severe losses to productions such as peaches and cherries due to frost.
Speaking about EU-US trade relations, he noted that the postponement of the implementation of revised duties is a critical “window of opportunity”.
Regarding the issue of food and feed proteins, he presented Greece’s holistic strategy to support the cultivation of mental people, the reduction of import dependence and the utilization of the tools of the circular economy. At the same time, he deposited the Greek position against laboratory protein laboratory technologies, stating: “Innovation must serve sustainable agriculture, not replace it. Our diet cannot depend on world chains that are easily destabilized. We need to return to Earth, to producers and to quality. “
He called on the European Commission to proceed immediately with the presentation of a new European protein strategy, which will enhance self -sufficiency, invest in research and boost domestic production.
The Minister of Rural Development and Food has made it clear that European farmers do not seek privileged treatment, they are calling for fair terms. “We owe it to those who support our food safety, countryside and social cohesion. Now is the time to move on to a strategy of responsibility, durability and perspective, “he said.
According to the same announcement, earlier, during the meeting of the European People’s Party Ministers of Agriculture, with a joint presidency of Finnish Sari Essayah and Greek Minister Costas Tsiaras, a clear, single message to the European Commission was reported to the European Commission in view of the new post. It was funded appropriately and ambitiously, ”was the central line of ministers.
As emphasized, the CAP is not just a budgetary mechanism, but the foundation of food security, economic and social cohesion and EU environmental sustainability. Its strategic importance is further enhanced in conditions of uncertainty, such as current context.
The EPP ministers asked:
– Stable and sufficient funding of the CAP, with a special fund.
– Maintaining the CAP as an independent legal framework, to ensure predictability and continuity for farmers.
– Enhance EU readiness Against crises, as well as the resilience of agricultural production against the impact of commercial policy. “Only with sufficient resources can the CAP continue to support the farmer, guarantee the quality of food and keep the countryside alive,” they concluded.
