THE baronJoaquin ‘El ChapoGusman has over 10 children – one of them is expected to declare guilty today (11.07.2025) for a large drug trafficking case aimed at the infamous Sinaloa cartel.
35 -year -old Ovid Gusman Lopes, one of the sons of the imprisoned Mexican Baroness “El Chapo”, will be brought to the Chicago Federal Court where he is expected to change his original statement and to declared guilty of five categories of drug trafficking, dirty money laundering and gun possession. In September 2023, in his first hearing, he had declared innocent. Public prosecutors argue that Ovid Gusman Lopes and his brothers, the so -called “Tsapitos” (“Little Chapos”), rebuilt the Sinaloa cartel after their father’s arrest in 2016 and received hundreds of millions of dollars.
Ovid, also known as the nickname “El Raton” (mouse) or “Raton Nuevo”issued in the US by Mexico in September 2023 as part of the war declared by the federal government in Fentanyl, a drug that killed almost 200 Americans daily at that time.
Ovid’s brother, Joaquin, was arrested last July at El Paso along with the cartel’s “boss”, Ismail “El Mayo” Saba.
The US authorities had recruited Joaquin, asking him to entice Sambanda and bring him by private plane to the US. Joaquin Gusman Lopes, also known as “El Gero” or “Geros Moreno”, said guilty of drug trafficking and money laundering and prosecutors announced that they would not seek to be imposed.
Saba, who had founded the cartel with El Chapo, has said innocent. In February, his lawyer told Reuters that he would be willing to say guilty if the prosecutors agreed not to seek his death.
El Chapo is serving a life imprisonment in a highest security prison in Colorado after being sentenced in 2019 to drug trafficking.
