Helmet saved the life of Haniotis champion cycling Giannis Zenteli who, while training fell into puddles in Agia area at Chania.
The 44 -year -old cyclist is hospitalized at Chania General Hospital, where he underwent a serious nose surgery with cartilage transplantation from the ear and will need at least 2 – 3 surgery.
The accident happened on Friday morning (11.07.2025), during his daily training he did with his athletes.
As he says at zarpanews.gr: “I was in front of the team. In the puddle shown in the photos, around which there was no markings, which due to time and shadow did not seem and I was unable to avoid it, the front wheel of the bike fell, causing the steering wheel and I nailed my head on the asphalt. Fortunately I was wearing a helmet … “.

“EKAB came immediately and transported me to Chania Hospital. There I underwent all the tests and it was considered immediate and necessary to surgery on the nose as I had suffered multiple fractures on the nose in cheekbones and jaws. The doctors informed us that it would take 2 or 3 more surgeries. “


Yiannis Zentelis has been involved in cycling since his 12 years. He has won a large number of Panhellenic Championships and has taken 6th place at the Masters World Masters Championships a year ago.
