Socrates Famellos: “Mitsotakis failed in the new refugee crisis – Greece Guardian of Europe”

The prime minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, for the new refugee and migratory crisis is being attributed by the president of SYRIZA-PS, Socratesin his statement.

Mr Famellos says Mr Mitsotakis “did nothing to prepare as a country for the new refugee and migrant crisis”. On the contrary, he argues that “he has agreed with the European Migration Pact, which turns Greece into a European prisoner”. In addition, he stresses that the prime minister “has failed miserably to build diplomatic relations with Libya” and now that Crete is under great pressure, “attempts dangerous moves of disorientation”.

The president of SYRIZA-PS refers to the change in the asylum regime, arguing that “the country’s international obligations, the questioning of the rights of those who are entitled to asylum and the supreme prison is not the solution”, adding that “it has done it again”.

Mr Famellos calls on the prime minister “to demand today the convening of the European Union Council for the proportionate distribution of refugees in Europe, a single system of asylum and returns, as well as sanctions in third countries that do not comply with their obligations and tool an immigration”. Also, “demand a change in the immigration pact, with prevention policies, dealing with traffickers and Greece’s support for the humanitarian treatment of refugees under international law.”

Finally, the president of SYRIZA-PS stresses that Mr Mitsotakis “must activate the entire state mechanism for the management of immigration in Crete, because it is not the job of municipalities and local communities to solve” the problem.
