Syria: ‘My God there is light’ – Shocking moment prisoner looks up at sky after months


The images coming from the aftermath of Assad are shocking Syriawith prisoners in underground prisons – hellholes to see the light of day after years, as they are released by the rebels.

A CNN correspondent recorded the touching moment when a prisoner in one of the Syrian prisons is freed by the rebels.

While searching with the rebels in a secret prison – torture center for the American journalist Austin Ticewho was arrested by the Assad regime in 2012, Clarissa Ward she was surprised to see a prisoner from Homs in a cell.

The man, who was unaware of the developments with the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad, was huddled under blankets, as seen in the video. The rebels ask if anyone is there. The prisoner gets up and with a spontaneous movement goes upstairs hands up.

The journalist and the rebels try to reassure him, telling him that he is now free. They offer him water, while he holds the journalist’s hand tightly.

Then, with terror still etched on his face, he is carried out of the prison. “My God, there is light! You have light!” he exclaims looking up at the sky. The moment is shocking. The man remained for three months in a windowless cell. Fear still grips him. “stay with me” he calls them.

When he is informed that there are no more torture prisons in Syria and that he is now free, he seems not to believe it. “Are you telling the truth?” he asks. “Yes, Syria is free” they also assure him embraces and guards the rebel.

Ardo Korbel, as he said is his name, had been without food and water for at least 4 days.
