Erdogan discussed with Members of the pro -Kurdish DEM party the PKK disarmament process

The disarmament of the Kurdish Labor Party (PKK. Recep Tayyip Erdoganwho welcomed him to the Presidential Palace in Ankara.

In a statement, it is noted that members of the delegation conveyed to Recep Tayyip Erdogan the party’s views and proposals on the new phase in which the PKK disarmament process is entering and the next steps to be taken.

It is also noted that during the meeting, it was highlighted the mutual will to promote the process.

Prior to the meeting, the Turkish Presidency’s communication direction issued a statement stating that “during the meeting the efforts made to achieve the” Turkey without terrorism “goal” would be discussed.

According to a report by the pro -government newspaper Hurriyet and journalist Hade Firat, Weapon deposition by PKK members in northern Iraq is expected to begin by the end of the week.

Turkish press reports speak of a symbolic ceremony to be held in northern Iraq, where a group of about fifty PKK members will hand over its weapons, but will currently remain in Iraq.

For the coordination of the relevant actions, the leader of the Turkish Intelligence Service MIT, Ibrahim Kalin, visited areas of the autonomous northern Iraq in previous days, which will be controlled by the Kurdish regional government, and tomorrow (07.07.2025), he will go to Baghdad.

The PKK conference last May, had decided to self -dissolution of the organization and the end of its armed action, aligned with the appeal of the prisoner of Abdullah Ocalan.

Abdullah Ocalan from the prison on the island of Imrali, where he has been appealing on February 27, 2025, for dismantling his PKK and his disarmament, responding to the proposal of President Erdogan’s government partner.

The DeM delegation had visited Ocalan in Imrali yesterday (06.07.2025).
