Ten years have passed today by the historical referendum on July 5, 2015, when the Greek people, in the midst of financial suffocation and closed banks, raised up and responded with a thunderous “NO” to the lenders’ ultimatums. On the occasion of the anniversary, the President of Freedom Cruise, Zoe Konstantopoulouhe proceeded to a moving and incendiary suspension-martyrdom for those moments, recalling that NO, though betrayed, remains lime.
“It is part of our existence and identity,” the former Speaker of the House stressed, noting that the referendum was the first genuine expression of direct democracy in the country since the transition.
NO of dignity
Mrs Konstantopoulou reminds us that NO was said in conditions of unprecedented fear and pressure:
“In the regime of blackmail, closed banks, threats and wild propaganda, the people have told us NO to imposition. He claimed his dignity and the future of his children. “
The President of Freedom Cruise is referring to betrayal of the result by those who “exchanged the trust and hope of the world with power and money”, but stresses that “NO has not been defeated” and remains alive In the hearts of those who supported it with courage.
