Despite the constant geopolitical tension and reasonable concerns about the future of the region, Greece does not remain a spectator. It evolves, claims and builds strategic alliances, utilizing any available “weapon” of foreign policy. As Mr Hatzidakis typically said, “these successes are not only the Prime Minister or the Government, but of all Greeks.”
1. Limiting marine zones with Italy and Egypt
The maritime zone delineation agreement with Italy and Egypt has been a historic station, creating a previous one that strengthens the country’s international position and paves the way for similar arrangements with other countries. With this diplomatic success, Greece guarantees its sovereign rights and enhances security in the Eastern Mediterranean.
2. Strengthening the armed forces in the air and sea
Upgrading our defense system and investment in new technological media have enhanced the armed forces. New frigates, Rafale aircraft and upgraded F-16s make up a modern security wall. Greece seems ready to defend its interests decisively, emitting a clear message of deterrence.
3. Chevron’s interest in research south of Crete
The entry of American Chevron, the second largest oil company in the world, into the “map” of research south of Crete, reinforces Greece’s geopolitical displacement. This interest acquires extra weight, as it is concerned with an area disputed by the illegal Turkolibyan memorandum. It is a practical recognition of the country’s sovereign rights and at the same time paves the way for new investment and alliances.
4. European decisions on the Turkolibyy Memorandum and the message to Libya
The recent decisions of the European Council also confirmed at the European level the rejection of the Turkish Memorandum as illegal. At the same time, Athens says to Libya that every support for this country is going through cooperation with Greece. In addition, the Libyan side has not implemented the Turkolibyan memorandum in practice, maintaining investigations in the so -called midline.
5. Marine spatial planning and approval by the EU
The presentation and transmission to the European Committee of Greece’s maritime planning is an important development. This design enhances the legitimacy and prestige of Greek positions, and was welcomed by the EU as a positive step in sustainable development and maintaining stability in the Mediterranean.
6. Assurance by the Egyptian Government for the Sinai Monastery
Egypt’s unequivocal assurance, through an article by its Foreign Minister, that the religious and worship of the Sinai Monastery remains non -negotiable is an important development for Greek -Egyptian relations. This respect enhances traditional friendship and mutual trust between the two countries.
Greece confidently on the international stage
All of the above steps prove that Greece has been removed from the mentality of the permanent “victim” and is vigorously claiming the role it deserves in the Mediterranean and the wider region. With proper planning, strategic alliances and reinforcement of national defense, our country is turning a reliable partner and protagonist of developments.
As an old diplomat would say: “In international politics there are no permanent friends, only permanent interests.” And this is now well known.
