For the second 24 hours, the fire that occurred in a farmland in Ierapetra continues and quickly expanded, with the strong winds that were blowing and today in the area making the work of ground and air via extinguishing, extremely difficult.

Fire coordinating groups immediately ordered the settlement of Fermones, as the fire was moving against residential sections, threatening property and human lives.

About 3,000 people have evacuated settlements and moved to Ierapetra, and the fire has burned more than 12,000 acres of land, courtyards of houses, farms and animals.
Settlements in an emergency mode
At the request of the Municipality of Ierapetra, the General Secretariat for Civil Protection decided earlier today to declare a state of emergency civil protection:
• of Makry Gialos Municipal Unit and
• of the Municipalities of Ierapetra and St. John the Municipality of Ierapetra of the Municipality of Ierapetra, the Regional Unit of Lasithi, the Region of Crete.
“This declaration will apply from the date of the occurrence of the phenomena for three (3) months, that is, up to 02 October 2025,” the Municipality of Ierapetra said in a statement.
