Turkish authorities arrested its former mayor Smyrna Tounts Soger in the context of Smyrna General Prosecutor’s Office for Corruption Cases. A total of 157 arrest warrants were issued, including the former mayor.
Tuz Soger, who served as mayor of Smyrna for five years until the municipal elections of 2024, belongs to the Republican People’s Party (CHP) of the opposition, as well as the Mayor of Constantinople Ekrem Imamoglou, who was also arrested for 19. Smyrna is considered the Chp stronghold.
The categories concern irregularities in the assignment of projects under the municipal urban redevelopment program.
Among those arrested are the Directors of the Municipal Construction Society of İz Beton and the İzsu Municipal Water Company, as well as the head of the Smyrna Prefecture of Smyrna.
