“I am convinced that we will be able to find a solution by the end of the year,” the US ambassador said to Turkey Tom Barack, in today’s (29.06.2025) interview with the Turkish Agency Anadolu, on the subject of F-35.
Barack believes that the disagreement between Turkey and the US over the F-35 fighter program and the US sanctions imposed on Ankara should be resolved. According to US diplomat, US President Donald Trump and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan will give instructions to the leaders of their diplomacy to “find a way to end”.
In 2020, the US imposed sanctions on Turkey-and their ally in NATO-because it bought the Russian S-400 anti-aircraft system. Washington ruled Turkey from the F-35 Development Program, arguing that the presence of the S-400 system would allow Russia to collect information on the capabilities of these fighter aircraft.
‘Al Sarah does not hate Israel’
Following the war between Iran and Israel it is necessary to consolidate peace agreements between the Jewish state on the one hand and Syria and Lebanon on the other, the ambassador said in addition.
‘(Transitional) president (Syria) al -Sarah said he does not hate Israel and that he wants peace at the border (of the two countries). I believe this will be done with Lebanon. An agreement with Israel is necessary, “said Barack, who is also a specialized Washington envoy to Syria.
Referring to Turkey, he said he “had excellent relations” with Israel and “this can happen again”. “There will therefore be a discussion, a dialogue. With Syria and Israel it is similar (the situation) and with Lebanon and Israel, too, ”he said.
The American diplomat also appeared optimistic that “in the near future” a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip would be achieved.
“The Middle East is ready to launch a new dialogue (…) The peoples are tired of the same epic and I think you will see the whole world returning to Abraham’s conditions, especially after the situation in Gaza is resolved. This is the main stakes, “he added.
