A new proposal for agreement with regard to their tariff disputes was made by its head Commission, Ursula von der Layen by the USA
“Our message today is clear. We are ready for an agreement (with the US). At the same time, we are preparing for the possibility that no satisfactory agreement will be reached, “said von der Laienne, president of the Commission, to reporters late Thursday night (26.6.25) following the EU summit in Brussels. The proposal will be evaluated now. All options remain on the table and the EU will defend European interests if needed. The US Commercial Representative’s office did not immediately respond to a request to comment on the latest US proposal.
The fact that the US had presented a new proposal was already discussed in the EU diplomatic circles before the official confirmation of the Commission. Ursula von der Laien allegedly presented the latest US proposals to the 27 EU Heads and Government Heads during a dinner at the EU Summit in Brussels. The Summit discussed the European Commission’s strategy to launch the final talks with the US government to prevent the escalation of the tariff dispute after the July 9th deadline.
