In a European Node of Infrastructure, Energy and Innovation the transformation is transformed Northern Greeceaccording to what he said today (27.6.25), P. Souretis (GEK TERNA).
Mr. Stouretis (GEK TERNA) said that “Thessaloniki and Northern Greece today seem to star as a hub of transport, energy and development in the wider Balkan region.
As a gateway to the Balkans and Central Europe, Northern Greece has all the guarantees to become a transit trade and a tourist attraction.
The ports of Thessaloniki, Kavala and Alexandroupolis, in combination with the main road and rail axes, are critical infrastructure that determines whether the North will win the development bet, reinforcing its role as a transit center. At the same time, Egnatia Odos acts as a catalyst, enhancing connectivity and accessibility to areas with intense tourist potential, such as Thessaloniki, Halkidiki and Kavala.
However, a prerequisite for winning the bet is to modernize infrastructure. These are not words without content. For GEK TERNA Group, these principles- technology, innovation and sustainability- determine its vision of tomorrow’s infrastructure.
Smart infrastructures, with digital technologies and AS that ensure optimization, safety and risk prediction.
“Green” infrastructure, using RES, zero carbon footprint and energy autonomy.
Sustainable projects, with lower operating costs, protection against natural disasters and enhancing social well -being.

Digital Technology and AE in the operation, management and security of infrastructure
Power stations
Reduction of environmental footprint through the use of renewable energy sources
• Nea Karvali – archers’ railway project ensures the interconnection of the new commodity port of Kavala with the basic rail network in northern Greece, enhancing the flow of goods to the Balkan and Central European markets.
