France: Two Spaniards are missing in the snowy Pyrenees at 2,783 meters

A couple Spaniards excursionists missing for the fourth 24 hours on the French side of the Pyrenees. Heavy snowfall is recorded in the area, the local police announced on Tuesday (10.12.2024).

The car of the Spanish excursionists in the Pyrenees was found on Monday (09.12.2024), in a parking lot at an altitude of 1,700 meters, buried in snow. The family’s dog was inside the vehicle.

According to the first information, the two Spaniards, a 52-year-old woman and a 47-year-old man, were heading on the evening of December 6 to a mountain refuge to spend the night there.

On Saturday (07.12.2024) it was established, thanks to data from mobile operators, that they took a path towards the Pic de la Rule, at an altitude of 2,783 meters.

The mobile phone gave a final indication in the morning of the same day, when they were at an altitude of 2,400 meters. Weather conditions then worsened as the area became foggy and then began to snow.

Relatives of the missing persons notified the authorities on Sunday evening (08.12.2024).

The police started the search on Monday morning and in a few hours they found the car. Because it was still snowing, a helicopter was mobilized only on Tuesday.

“We are continuing the search, but with the snow reaching one and a half meters in places, the conditions are difficult,” said police officer Jean-Marc Gallen.
