The announcement of the workers’ union
According to the Workers’ Union of Syros Ermoupolis, this incident highlights the particularly difficult and often dangerous conditions under which municipal officials, as well as KEP officials, are called upon to work.
In their announcement, among other things, they point out:
“We learn every day about similar incidents that take place throughout the Greek territory.
Employees are often faced with irritable or angry citizens looking to find the scapegoat for all the suffering that is happening to them.
We know the “caramel” that many reflects:
“I pay you and I can ask you what I want.”
“You’ll serve me now, because I’ll call your … and alas.”
“All civil servants are convenient and lazy.”
It is coming !!!
Civil servants are public officials who serve the Constitution and the laws.
Their employer is the Greek state and not the Greek people.
Employees of the Municipality and the KEPs are making constant efforts to serve their fellow citizens.
It is imperative that we have complete respect for their work, to adhere to the rules that ensure the smooth functioning of the services and, in the end, to work together to make our island a better place to live.
Respect for their work and observing the rules is not only an obligation, but a sample of culture and collective responsibility.
Our association will in every legal way defend the safety and dignity of its employees, sending a clear message that violence has no place on our island.
We condemn any form of violence.
We send a message of solidarity to our colleague.
We will stand on the side of every employee who receives psychological or physical violence.
We are claiming a safe work environment for everyone. “
