In a National Women’s match that Greek fans set a record in history (8,860 fans at the SEF tonight after 8,100 in the US-Greece match in 2004), Peter Preca’s players … left in the 3rd period in the 3rd period, Eurobasket 2025France.
The Greek international after winning the premiere over Switzerland yesterday (18/6) suffered their first defeat tonight at the SEF, 92-56 from the “blue” and now give the “final” with Turkey on Saturday (21/6, 20:30), for the 2nd place of the group leading to the event. Turkey is like Greece at 1-1, counting a defeat by France and a victory over Switzerland.
Ethniki was competitive in the first half, led by +3 points (21-24) with Robin Park’s three-pointer, but was unable to stop the French of the French outside 6.75. In the 3rd period, France turned +7 to +16 in a matter of minutes and now Peter Preca’s players could not follow the pace of higher France, silver at the Paris Olympics last year and present on the podium in the last eight Eurobaskets (2013).
Zanel Salaun finished the match with 17 points and 5/6 three -point, 15 additions, 14th Rupera and 12th Astier for France.
Our National had the top scorer with Artemis Spanou with 14 points, 11 scored by Mariella Fasoula and 10 Elena Bosgana.
The quarters: 21-17, 44-37, 64-47, 92-56
Pavlopoulou, Christinaki, Parks, Fasoula and Spanou started for the National in the original five. With Berni, Toure, Salat, Ayiagi and Rupere entered France. Greek internationals showed early on that they came into the parquet determined to fight against the “glory” France. And they looked at them … tambles. Indeed, with Parks’ three-pointer, Ethniki led 13-15. And with Fasoula and Spanou gathering rebounds and sharing the aggressive initiatives (8p Spanu, 6th Fasoula in the 1st quarter), the “blue -white” managed to follow the “tricolor” at -4 (21-17) in the 10th minute. The French had 3/5 three -pointers, with Greece 1/4 in this 1st period. Mingna Toure with 9 points and Zanel

With Elena Bosgana’s three -point lead, the 2nd period began to reduce the national team. And would overtake with +3 for the first time (21-24) with Robin Park’s three-pointer. But in the two-pointers of the “blue-white” the “blue” responded with three, the two successive as an astonish and salad, to overtake +4 (32-28). France by Valerian Ayiagi (34-28) to be preceded by +6. Greece did not … deposit the weapons, but the truth is that what was bothering to attack … saw it crumble in defense, as the French had been linked to the basket out of 6.75. Like when, with an incredible distant assist in Parks, Penelope Pavlopoulou, out of 6.75, reduced to 36-32. Iliana Ruper’s three-point lead from the top of France for the first time in the match (39-32). Spanu brought the National to -3 (39-35), Astier had 1/2 shots after Bosgana’s 2nd foul (40-35) and Mariella Fasoula reduced to 40-37. And after two other shots of the Astier and Pavlopoulou’s mistake, Lakan shaped the 2nd period (44-37) with lei in the first part. France had scored 4 more three -pointers in the 2nd quarter (4/12) with Salaun to count 3/4, and Greece having 3/9 in total.
Their three-point Migna Toure (48-38) would be the beginning of France’s absolute domination. Although Spanu won a foul, a technical penalty was given to the Federal Petros Preca, Ayiagi put the shot of the technique (49-38), while Spanu had 2/2 shots (49-40). And somewhere there … the contact was permanently lost, with France passing by +19 (64-45) after two more successive three-pointers of Sala. With 2/2 shots, Elena Bosgana formed the 3rd period score (64-67).
The 4th period has been a typical process. France also escaped +26 (75-49) as the difference had released them and all the French shots found a target. On the contrary, Greek women international frustrated and tired of over -effort in the first two quarters have now shooted with very low rates. Even with +36 the French escaped to finish the match with a score of 92-56.
