In Luxembourg Kyriakos Pierrakakis for Eurogroup and Ecofin meetings

The Minister of National Economy and Finance Kyriakos Pierrakakis goes to the Luxembourgwhere he will participate in his meetings Eurogroup and Ecofin.

At today’s (19.6.2025) meeting in Luxembourg, European finance ministers will discuss the situation in the eurozone, fiscal developments in member states and internal barriers to competition, on the occasion of the relevant reports presented by the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The focus will also be the preparation of the digital euro introduction and the process of electing a new Eurogroup president.

At the ECOFIN meeting to be held tomorrow (20.6.2025), the European Commission’s progress report on the EU Customs Union will be presented. The aim is to simplify the Customs Procedures for Businesses and to ensure the proper collection of duties and taxes for the benefit of the EU.

The finance ministers, in a period of intense geopolitical instability, will then exchange views aimed at finding ways to reduce energy costs in the EU. They will also discuss the next steps in the field of European defense funding and the ongoing economic impact of Russian. Ecofin’s dinner will also be analyzed by Ukraine’s financial and defense needs.

The ECOFIN Council will be presented by the European Commission the Spring Spring Spring Measures of the European Semester 2025 with special recommendations. On the agenda is the adoption of revised recovery and durability plans for Spain, Italy, Croatia and Slovenia.

Both the Eurogroup and Ecofin will examine the expansion of the euro area in view of the forthcoming adoption of the common currency by Bulgaria.

The Minister of Finance will also participate in the annual meetings of the Board of Directors of the European Stability Mechanism and the European Investment Bank. On the sidelines of the Eurogroup and Ecofin meetings, Mr. Pierrakakis will meet with European officials and counterparts.
