The great electrical interface of Crete is currently in test mode and the first writing samples are positive, as its chairman and chief executive said in this regard. ADMEManos Manousakis.
Electric interface tests have now reached 100 MW (from a total 1 GW capacity) and continue. The goal is to be able to conclude by the end of summer that everything is going smoothly so that after the cable it is put in full operation with full power.
However, measures have been taken to ensure the competence of electricity in Crete in any scenario in the medium term. Specifically, this year’s and next summer the role of reserve will play units that have already been installed on the island.
In a more medium -term horizon, ADMIE will study to determine whether these units, along with the batteries to be implemented, are sufficient to protect Crete if there is damage to one of the two cables that join it with the mainland.
ADMIE’s solutions include the construction of a third interconnection. As he explained, such a cable should be connected to another part in mainland Greece than the first two cables, joined with Peloponnese and Attica.
At the moment it is early, however, whatever the solution is, the goal is to supply Crete completely safe in each scenario.
