With a wide majority today the parliament was voted in in Parliament newA Road Traffic Code (COKE)signaling an important step towards improving the road safety in Greece. The new institutional framework sets up scalable penalties for systematic offenders and aims to radically reduce traffic accidentwhich continue to hit the country at levels above the European average.
“The young Coke does not aim for punishment, but to prevention”underlined the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Konstantinos Kyranakisadding that “This is a necessary response to harsh data that translate into lives that are lost.”.

Prevention and consciousness message
The new coke is not just tightening the penaltiesbut Prevention and Education Strategy. Citizens are now invited to consistently complyas the repetition of infringement is punishable more severely.
The goal is not to fill state funds from fines but to save lives. And to save lives, it takes something much more difficult than legislation: change of mindset.
