By “baiting” the investment in cryptocurrencies that would bring multiple profits, shrewd people cheated a man. Her perpetrators fraud they extracted 250,000 euros, while under the pretext of recovering the money of the supposed investment they tried to take another 920,000 euros from him.

When the victim realized that it was a fraud with the lure of profit with cryptocurrencies, he contacted the Police, who started investigations that led to the identification of the perpetrators.

They are two Greeks, 28 and 32 years old, while it seems that a woman is also involved in the case, whose details remain, for now, unknown. The case file that was filed concerns a series of criminal acts, such as the creation of a criminal organization, money laundering and fraud.

The case was revealed by police officers of the Property Rights Protection Department of the Thessaloniki Security. As described in the case file, the two defendants introduced themselves to the would-be victim as alleged employees of a cryptocurrency trading and management company, and in these capacities convinced the man to invest in the cryptocurrency market by buying bitcoins, with the lure of multiplying his profits.

The unsuspecting victim deposited the total sum of 249,770 euros in two Lithuanian bank accounts from the middle of last January until the middle of the following month. Under the pretext of recovering his money, they – according to the same case file – then tried to extort another 925,615 euros from him.

The case file was submitted to the competent prosecutor, while investigations into the identification of the woman continue.
