Mitsotakis for Sinai, Universities and Final Basketball: To win the best, leaving behind our bad self behind

The established Sunday post in Facebook made the prime minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. The prime minister stands in the tense atmosphere in her finals Greek Basket League and the need to apply the legislation on abusive behaviors.

In addition, it refers to developments with Sinaipointing out the Government’s clear position, “That is to say, the centuries -long tradition and the already shaped status quo function of this emblematic Greek -Orthodox landmark.”

It also stands in the interventions that will shield HEIs against violence and talks about the evaluation of civil servants and the course of the Greek economy.

In his post, the Prime Minister states:

“Good day! Three days, but I hope you are tuned to our appointment. Another “full” seven days was completed, with many government interventions in different fields. But before I mention all this, I would like to start with a matter of particular importance: the case of the Holy Catherine Monastery, Mount Sinai, following the decision of the Ismail Court of Appeal. Our position is clear and identical to that of the historical monastery, that is to say, the centuries -long tradition and the already designed status quo function of this emblematic Greek -Orthodox landmark. The Egyptian government’s explicit assurance of the continuation of the monastery with the existing regime, following the position of President Sisi, shows Cairo’s willingness to address the case in a positive way. The Greek Foreign Minister with his Egyptian counterpart was in the same vein, where the two sides were agreed to work in the direction of securing the rights of the monastery, his legal form and personality. Our goal is to resolve the issue in a fair and definitive way and to continue the strategic cooperation between the two countries.

Now to come to the review of government interventions of the week and start with issues of legality. As you will know, 15 months ago we introduced a stricter framework for tackling violence in sports venues: Mandatory cameras operation, digital inspection of fans’ identification entry into the stadiums, restricting sports clubs in one group and automated administrative penalties for each. Measures that were effective. What we have achieved collectively in the last year we will not allow them to go. The state must safeguard the smooth and safe conduct of sports events. For us it is self -evident to apply the law in any case of infringement on and off the field. In the same spirit we expect the owners and administrations of the teams to behave with their example, as do all basketball players and of course the fans. We all recognize that tension is an integral part of a competitive sport and league, such as Greek basketball. It is the responsibility and obligation of all of us to defend the joy and competitiveness of basketball sport, eliminating every illegal energy from the pitch. To win, therefore, the best, leaving out of the stadiums and definitively behind us.

Our universities cannot also take place. The law must apply and this is a non -negotiable prerequisite for everyone to feel safe in their schools. In 2019 we restored true academic asylum. And I say true because the peculiar status of lawlessness during the transition had nothing to do with the free movement of ideas. The perception that allegedly “nothing has changed” is the case and the effort we have made. I recall that 48 occupations have been evacuated and at least 500 people who had turned the institutions have been arrested either into hoodlums or in common criminal law. In many cases the prevalence of legality was done with the contribution of the Rector’s authorities. Elsewhere, the measures have attributed gaps elsewhere and inability to respond to both the government and the judicial and police authorities and university administrations. We are now coming to strengthen the already bold legislative framework with additional 11 interventions that we believe will more effectively shield HEIs over violence. Indicatively, I mention a few: a criminal student will automatically lose his student status for up to 24 months, within 10 days without delay and unnecessary administrative bureaucracy. The Supreme Court’s deputy prosecutor will oversee nationwide offenses of university violence. Access control will be enhanced by university facilities, according to the foreign schools, while for those Rectors and Administrations that will not meet their obligations, sanctions are foreseen up to a discount from their role. With satisfaction I listened to the rectors at our days ago to welcome our decision to protect the public university even more emphatically. No design can be effective unless it starts with the establishment of a prevention and zero tolerance culture.

We said it, we do it. The reason for the program “Marietta Giannakou”. At the end of the school year, so practically in a few days, the workshops get work in 426 schools in 245 municipalities in the country. This is the first time that such renovations and improvements have been made in public school infrastructure. The schools were selected by specific criteria, prioritizing special schools proposed by municipalities, school units in acrimonious, island and border areas and in areas recently affected by natural disasters. It is a project totaling EUR 100 million, derived from the donation of the Hellenic Bank Association, and each year will be added by national resources of an additional EUR 50 million to increase the number of schools renovated and acquired modern and accessible infrastructure.

With a “click”, every citizen can now see all the programs related to the acquisition, renovation, repair or upgrading of homes and identify which subsidies, tax breaks or facilities correspond to their profile, whether owner or tenant. All this at stegasi.gov.gr, where there is detailed information on all 43 actions implemented by the government on housing, with a total budget of € 6.5 billion. Something even more useful: The platform calculates the amount that can save any interested in if it is included in any program that suits their profile, while the user can adjust various parameters to adjust the program benefits to their needs. If the visitor of the digital portal wishes, it may immediately begin to apply for participation.

I am changing now and going to one of the most misunderstood concepts in our country, the evaluation of public services, bodies and employees. It is deliberately or not slandered as a punishment, and in fact it is a tool of improvement, both for the services and for the people who staff them. For the first time in Greece, in addition to the substantial internal evaluation I will mention below, citizens were asked to say their opinion through the axiologisi.ypes.gov.gr platform about specific structures by category of services of the central state and local authorities. Within two weeks, 65,000 citizens, women and men of all ages participated in the largest poll of this kind ever. The results are of great interest -you can also see them on the site I mentioned above. Now it is our responsibility to turn these results into actions that will upgrade state agencies, as well as the obligation of the mayors to take very seriously what citizens have told us and what they propose in order to improve their daily lives. Appointment in six months that we will have the next evaluation from the world.

We also go to the internal evaluation of public officials for 2024, where the results here are extremely interesting. 172,474 employees – 8.808 more than 2019 – of which 22,725 bosses, the largest number over time. And while 9 out of 10 employees and bosses were judged to be high performance, excellent and adequate, now, having evaluated at the base of 186,836 targets, the image is completely different. I would say real. What do I mean? A high performance employees were rated only 15,615, that is, less than 1 in 10, while under hate -4 in 10 -bosses were considered excellent and very sufficient. Two other elements worth mentioning: The number of training was almost quadrupled and a total bonus of € 29.1 million was given to those who achieved the goals. To really change the public, it takes measurement, evaluation and consistency. Only in this way will it stop working for himself and start working for citizens and society.

I will continue with the good news from Brussels. The Commission’s six -month report clearly recognizes the positive course of the Greek economy with high primary surpluses, double the eurozone growth with the possibility of serving its debt, which is rapidly escalating. Of particular importance is the approval we received for the activation of the escape clause for defense spending, which creates a fiscal space of € 500 million for 2026, which will be allocated to development and social purposes. The Commission also accepted the Greek request to be taken in 2024 as a basis for the calculation of defense spending as a percentage of GDP, instead of 2021 which will apply to all other Member States. For our country and for us, defense is a national affair and is an absolute priority.

We continue to invest in the future. And this is not a slogan, it is an act. Accelerating strategic investment in critical sectors is key to the productive transformation of our country. In this regard, the Ministry of Development and the Inter -Ministerial Committee on Strategic Investment approved 4 new investments, with a budget of € 780 million in the fields of energy, networks, innovation and tourism. This is the construction of a Co₂ Commitment Unit at TITAN’s plant in Kamari, Boeotia, the development of a United Fiber optic fiber network to cover at least 1.6 million households in the territory by 2027, the Intracom Telecom Hermes project for the development Multipurpose tourist complex in the Municipality of Preveza. With the new development law we have voted on, over 1 billion euros will be allocated over the next two years in the whole of Greek entrepreneurship with the aim of sustainable development, enhancing competitiveness and creating even more and better -paid jobs.

So,! Some news we liked more, some a little less, but everything is worth knowing. To know where we are and where we want to go. Thank you for the time you have in this review. Good morning!”
