New interventions in the field of banks launched by the Ministry of Finance (SEC), according to the recent statements of Kostis Hatzidakis from the floor of the Parliament.
In the immediate future, the Ministry of Finance is expected to announce interventions in the banks that will move along five axes, with the issue of supplies being the one that is of great concern to citizens.
The interventions of the Ministry of Finance are going to aim at further strengthening the competition between banks, at supporting the liquidity of small and medium-sized enterprises, active contribution by the banks in solving the housing problem, dealing with any move by the banks that makes citizens resentful , but also further care for the procurement issue.
The latter includes not only the direct reductions on the part of banks, but also the further promotion of the IRIS system which allows transactions with low or no commissions.
New interventions in banking commissions, IRIS is upgraded from the first half of 2025
Regarding the issue of bank commissions, the financial staff has already implemented their reduction by law by 50% for all transactions up to 10 euros, while the expansion of the IRIS direct payment system, which has already become mandatory for the professionals with low commissions on their trades and no commissions at all between individuals.
In fact, as it has already been known, in the first half of 2025 the technical specifications will be completely ready so that the IRIS regime will completely change as the daily payment limit will be doubled.
In particular, from the 500 euros that applied until now, which included both private and self-employed transactions, two distinct limits will be created for each of these types of transactions.
Specifically:
- The first will concern free money transfer from friends with a limit of 500 euros
- The second will concern payments of freelancers (plumbers, lawyers, accountants, electricians, etc.) with a limit of 1,000 euros. 560,000 freelancers have already registered in this category out of a total of 720,000 that exist in the country.
