A Palestine -originated man was detained today (06.06.2025), after attacking rabbi with a chair, near Paris, an incident that reflects the large increase in hate crimes in Francewhich includes anti -Semitic attacks.
Palestine perpetrator made a fierce attack on Rabbi Eli Lemelwhile he was sitting outside a cafe in Negi Sir Sen in France, throwing a chair on his face and was arrested shortly afterwards. It was a Palestinian without legal documents in France, but is a document that allowed him to circulate in Normandy in whose registers he was normally registered.
The detainee underwent a psychiatric examination and his hospitalization was decided, according to the Office of the Public Prosecutor’s Office. According to his identification documents he had with him, he is a 28 -year -old man born in Rafa, on the West Bank.
Authorities have launched investigations into causing physical damage, the prosecutor’s office has confirmed to AFP.
The victim, injured in the front, explained that it was the second time in a week that is targeted by an analogous action.
Regarding today’s attack, he described how he was sitting in a cafe in the Paris suburb, when someone hit him on his head with a chair. “I found myself on the ground, I immediately felt the blood running,” he said.
He was taken aback and he was not sure exactly what happened, he was told, initially thinking that he might have fallen from a window or the roof before realizing that he had been attacked.
“Unfortunately, given my beard and my Kipa, I suspected that this was the reason and that is a shame,” he said.
Today’s incident follows another in the city of Dovil in Normandy last week, when Lemel said he punched him in the stomach an unknown person.
Lemel said he was used to “in not -so -friendly looks, some unpleasant words, people passing by and spit on the ground”, but they had not attacked him physically before the two attacks.
“This act annoys us,” former Prime Minister Gabriel Atal wrote in X about today’s attack. “Anti -Semitism, like all forms of hatred, is a deadly poison for our society.”
