The new member of Ford’s EcoBoost turbo engine family will debut in the new Mondeo. The total capacity of 1.5 lt. it delivers 180 PS at 6,000 rpm and displays a peak torque of 24.5 kgm from 1,500 to 4,500 rpm.
The new EcoBoost is combined with the 6-speed SelectShift automatic transmission.
Ford didn’t wait until the Shanghai show on April 20 to introduce the new Mondeo in China and did so at a special event.
For the local market, the Mondeo is manufactured by Ford’s joint venture with Chang’an and will go on sale in May.
Its commercial launch in Europe will be delayed, however, as the restructuring plan of the company’s operations in Geria Epirus means that the start of its production will be postponed towards the end of 2014.
