The way to prison took after his apology the 49 -year -old Turkish national accused of armed attack on National Intelligence Service (EYP) officials last week in the Thermi area, Thessaloniki. An investigator and prosecutor decided to temporarily detention, despite his claims that he acted out of fear.
The 49 -year -old driver of the vehicle from which the shots fell, faces serious charges that include attempted co -operation homicide, as well as illegal weapons and arson. In his apology, he allegedly claimed to be in a panic, believing he was being monitored by agents of Turkey’s intelligence services. “I would never shoot if I knew they were EYP executives,” he allegedly said, apologizing and arguing that he was targeting low, at the point of the vehicle where there was no passenger. He has been living in Greece as a political refugee since 2018.
His arrest was held last Saturday in the village of Kato Vyrsini, Rodopi, as he allegedly attempted to flee illegally in Bulgaria.
International Enterprise and Arrest of Associates
At the same time, the case is taking on international dimensions, as its two Turkish associates, aged 23 and 43, were identified and arrested in Svilengrad, Bulgaria, near the Turkish -Bulgarian border. Their arrest was the result of a flawless coordinated business of the Bulgarian authorities, following the issuance of a European arrest warrant by Greece and the provision of critical information from the Thessaloniki organized crime service.
The Bulgarian Special Forces managed within a few hours to identify not only the wanted but also their escape vehicle. According to authorities, the detainees are alleged to be members of the criminal organization “Daltons”, which has been active in Greece. The process for their extradition to Greece has already begun to be held accountable for the criminal acts attributed to them.
