THE Nikos Sarganis “passed away” at the age of 70, plunging Greek football into sadness. His old teammate, Spyros Livathinos he remembered football moments he spent with “Fandom”.
Nikos Livathinos referred to the unforgettable match of the national football team at the home of Denmark, a match in which Nikos Sarganis was nicknamed “Phantom” by the opponents.
“I happened to be the first one to know he was going to play. Alketas Panagoulias asked me for my opinion, because Poupakis got hit in training and I said “Nikos is a finisher, he will come in and do his duty”. in a very difficult game, he entered with a psychology that was admirable” said Spyros Livathinos.
“I had such confidence about Nikos, that he will catch everything. Off the field he was a good friend, but in his life he was closed. I will never forget him. I’ve hung out with him a lot. It’s a difficult day today,” he said.
