The President of the European Commission (ed. Commission), Ursula von der Layen, met today (2.6.2025) in Berlin with Republican Senator Lindsay Graham on the coordination between the EU and the US, regarding sanctions against Russia.
According to the Commission’s announcement, President von Der Laen explained that “we need a real truce, we need Russia at the negotiating table and we have to end this war.” He also stressed that “the pressure works, as the Kremlin understands nothing else” and welcomed the Senator Graham’s commitment to increase pressure on Russia and move the Senate with the bill next week.
For its part, the EU is preparing the 18th package of “strict sanctions”, targeting Russia’s energy revenue, including Nord Stream infrastructure, Russian banking sector, and further reduction in the Russian crude prices (60). Moscow’s revenue, coupled with the actions aimed at the shadow fleet of Russia.
President von der Laien and Senator Graham also discussed the issue of 20,000 abducted children from Ukraine and possible further pressure on Russia.
Concerning the conflict of duties, both sides agreed that a solution through negotiations before the end of the 90 -day period would be “the best scenario”.
