To rise the electricity values from now on after the low of May

The prices of power They fell into the nadir in May in our country, but are expected to follow a growth course.

Indicatively, within the month of wholesale is close to 85 euros, ie 4% lower than April. This is a normal seasonal decline, while the RES cover a very large part of demand and some hours of the day even exceed 90%.

However, the continuity is not expected as positive for consumers. In the summer it will bring about increased demand due to the needs of air conditioning and the enhanced operation of expensive units, namely natural gas and lignite. At the same time, the country’s hydroelectricity is not able to provide the same large quantities as in previous years due to water scarcity.

Another problem is the rise in natural gas price lately, as it has now reached 37 euros, from 32 euros in April. As a result, the cost of operating the power plants that use this fuel increases.

A central question in view of the continuity is whether this year there will be a corresponding regional crisis like the one we saw last July-August. At that time, the SE European market in essence was disconnected from the rest of Epirus and very high prices were observed.

Although the Greek government has raised the issue in Brussels along with neighboring countries, no specific measure has been taken beyond the best coordination between the managers of the transport networks so far. Thus, the area remains largely the prevailing conditions.

It should be noted that in a possible new crisis, the government is committed to re -subsidies to home consumers. An open question is whether it will offer them to businesses, as it did last winter.

Thus passing the retail prices, a first signal of what consumers will pay from now on we will have in a few days when the June invoices are announced. May may have been very cheap, but suppliers are not excluded to start scaling their prices so that they do not have to do so at once in the summer.

This, of course, concerns the floating invoices (green-yellow) and not blue constants. The market image last year and this year shows a massive turn to the latter, as more and more consumers are choosing to lock a low price for one or two years to avoid monthly “surprises”.
